Dalīl.
Handbook made answerable
A handbook is only as good as its answers.
One of fifteen tools the studio built for its own work. We build the same kind of app for clients, shaped around the job they need doing.
- Made for
- Turning a static handbook into something you can ask
- Shape
- Native Mac app with offline reading and text search
- Data
- Documents stored locally; cloud AI sends relevant content to the selected provider
What Dalīl does.
Policies and procedures often exist but remain difficult to find, leaving one person to answer the same questions repeatedly. Dalīl turns those documents into a handbook people can ask.
Reading and text search work offline. AI answers and summaries use the configured provider, which may receive your question and relevant document text. Check generated answers against the sources.
Let people find clear answers in your policies and procedures without always interrupting the colleague who knows them best.
Why we built Dalīl.
Our own handbook (ninety-four documents covering how we do things) lived as plain files in a folder. Finding anything meant already knowing where it was, and asking meant interrupting whoever wrote it. The knowledge existed; it just didn't answer.
Dalīl (the name is Arabic for "guide") was built to close that gap: the same documents, made fast to search, pleasant to read, and able to answer a question directly.
How Dalīl earns its place in a working day.
Point it at the documents
The handbook is turned into a fast, searchable library, organised by section, with a proper navigation tree.
Ask a question
Type a question in plain English. AI uses relevant handbook passages to draft an answer.
Check the source
Open the source references and check the answer against the document; AI can still make mistakes.
Keep it to hand
Tabs, bookmarks and notes for the pages you live in, all of it working offline.
Fewer repeated questions
Questions that used to interrupt the handbook author can now be answered from the handbook itself.
The documents get read
Ninety-four files nobody opened became a library people actually use, because finding things stopped being work.
Answers stay easy to check
Source references help you compare generated answers with the original documents.
Made to fit the work it needs to do.
We modelled the feel on the best Mac apps: fast, driven from the keyboard, quiet. Reading and text search work offline. AI can use a cloud provider or an Ollama service, depending on how it is configured.
The AI is optional by design. The app is genuinely useful with it switched off (search, navigation, bookmarks, notes) and better with it on. That's the shape we recommend to clients too: a tool that works, with AI making it work harder.
AI uses relevant handbook passages to draft answers, with source references available for checking. It can also condense a long document around the point you need.
Could your business use something like this?
Tell us the job in plain English. We'll say what would solve it, what it would cost, and whether a desktop app is the right shape for it.
